Ah-Balling @ Ghim Moh
The newly renovated hawker centre just off Holland V. One of the cleaner hawker centres around - read: your clothes dun smell. There's lots of good food around - char queh tiao, nasi lemak, masala tosei, hakka yong tau fu, etc. Dessert's my favorite anyway. This stall is located at the corner (near the toilet). Cost just $1.50 for 4 balls.
Step 1: decide on the filling - peanut, sesame, red bean, etc.
Step 2: your soup base - ginger or peanut.
My favorite is peanut soup with 2 sesame balls, 2 peanut balls.
What sets this ah-balling apart from the others??
Peanut filling is crunchy and slightly sweet. The nuts are grated to the right consistency - not too coarse nor too fine!! Sesame filling has a nutty taste and a slight crunch - absolutely lovely. The skin is not too thick nor too thin. It's got the right bite - slighty chewy. One bite and the filling oOOoOoooozes out, filling your palate with an explosion of sweetness. Just the way desserts should be.
